The first season of the hit HBO show The last of us has come to an end. After such a shocking and heartbreaking conclusion, fans have been left eager to see what will become of Joel and Ellie in season 2. With the show’s source material continuing well beyond where the first season concludes, there’s still a lot to wait. a, and so many possibilities for the second.

Season 1 of the show adapted events from both the first game and the Left behind DLC, so season 2 is likely to follow the story of The Last of Us Part II. Taking place four years after the original, this sequel follows Joel and Ellie after the latter learns that Joel stopped the fireflies from killing her and created a cure for her illness. Season 2 is only half
Given how vast and layered the second game is, there’s certainly a lot to cover in a single season, and showrunner Craig Mazin has admitted that collider that the series could go beyond two seasons to be able to tell the whole story. “The amount of story remaining would probably take us more than a season to tell,” Mazin said.

Given the enormous popularity of Pedro Pascal as Joel, staying true to the source material and killing off his character is bound to upset a lot of fans. However, HBO is no stranger to killing off its main leads early, as audiences have seen Ned Stark and Viserys Targaryen die in the first season of their respective shows.

The Last of Us Part II introduced many new characters who play important roles in Joel and Ellie’s story. If the second season adapts the second game, it will likely introduce these key characters.
abby anderson
Abby is a young woman seeking revenge against Joel for murdering her father, one of Firefly’s doctors who tried to operate on Ellie to create a cure for Cordyceps. Despite the fact that she murders Joel in the sequel, she Abby is actually one of the protagonists of the story. Although she starts out jaded and ruthless, she regains her sense of compassion and morality when she takes on Ellie and the Seraphites, making her one of the most compelling characters in the franchise.

Audiences got to see Ellie falling in love with her girlfriend, Dina, in the second season. The two meet in the second game while living in Jackson, Wyoming. Dina then joins Ellie as she pursues Abby seeking revenge on her. The two eventually move in together and Dina gives birth to her son, JJ. They live together as a family until Ellie leaves to find and kill Abby again, and Ellie finds out that Dina and JJ are gone when she returns.
jesse
Jesse is featured in Part II as the leader of Jackson’s patrol groups and Dina’s ex-boyfriend. As Dina breaks up with him before falling for Ellie, Jesse joins them both in their search for Abby, making him a trusted ally. Even though Jesse dies during his journey, he still lives on through his and Dina’s son, JJ.
lev
Growing up as “Lily”, Lev was a member of the Seraphite until he was banished for shaving his head, which is his way of identifying as a transgender man. Armed with his trusty bow and arrow, Lev fights alongside Abby as a member of the Washington Liberation Front.
The games’ portrayal of Lev was controversial with some transgender audiences, but hopefully, the show’s writers can learn from this backlash and give his character a more sensitive backstory, similar to what they did with Bill and Frank.
Yara
Yara is Lev’s older sister, who also grew up a Seraphite before leaving the cult with him. Loving and caring for her little brother, Yara will do whatever it takes to protect Lev from harm. Even when the Seraphites tortured her and broke her arm to force her to give up Lev for her, she never gave up. She ends up losing her life protecting Lev, but if she shows up in season 2, she’s sure to become the sister every fan would want.
Owen and Mel
Originally members of the Fireflies, Owen and Mel become part of the WLF and members of Abby’s team. They help Abby murder Joel, but these two lovers are among the most compassionate and merciful characters in the story, and both prefer not to get involved in violence.
Unfortunately, Ellie kills them both in the game, unaware that Mel is pregnant with Owen’s child. There’s no telling if the show’s creators will go as far as adapting these characters for the sequel, but Season 1 has shown that they aren’t afraid to practice dark storytelling.
manny
Another of Abby’s friends/allies, Manny helps her kill Joel. Manny can be just as brutal and callous towards her enemies as Abby (even considering killing Ellie after Abby murdered Joel). However, he remains extremely loyal to Abby and her ex-Firefly team, treating them like family and doing everything he can to keep them all together. Like Joel, he is an angel to his friends. but a devil to others.
the rat king
It’s worth mentioning that season 2 could see Ellie face off against the dreaded Rat King when exploring Seattle. This creature is a hideous amalgamation of some of the first people infected with the Cordyceps fungus, and possesses strength even greater than that of a bloat.
While this monster isn’t a major character in the story, its appearance would surely be a formidable obstacle for Ellie to overcome, as well as an amazing piece of body horror straight out of John Carpenter. The thing.
probable cast
While Ellie starts out as 15 in the show’s first season, her character is assumed to be 19 in the second game. As a result, 19-year-old Bella Ramsey is highly unlikely to be recast for next season. There is no need for a dragon house-change of style in the programming of the program.
There is still the question of choosing the newcomers. Many audiences believe that Dina could have already appeared on the show as the girl who watches Ellie in episode 6 (this girl is played by Paolina van Kleef). Also, fans are already theorizing that actor Shannon Berry (the Savages) has already been cast as Abby. Meanwhile, Ian Alexander and Victoria Grace, who played Lev and Yara in the game respectively, have expressed interest in revisiting their characters for the show. For the rest of the new cast, no one knows who HBO will join the series in season 2.
