Selfie trick sets new Guinness World Record | digital trends

It seems that Guinness World Records is happy to consider any kind of extraordinary feat for its listings, no matter how bizarre or wacky.

After all, it has officially certified a record for the farthest eyeball burst, in which a person’s eyeballs emerge from their sockets to a point where it looks like they’re going to fall out. Guinness also lists a record for the fastest tightrope walk in high heels, as well as the longest ride on a boat made of pumpkin.

All of these could easily be joint Guinness World Record holders for most worthless Guinness World Record, but there’s no official record for that (yet).

Another possible contender for that particular title would surely be the world record for the most selfies taken in three minutes. Just because?

In recent days, Indian actor Akshay Kumar set a new record for quick selfies during a promotional event for his latest film, called selfie (oh, that’s why).

In a video shared by Guinness World Records on Thursday, we see Kumar sporting a rictus smile as he gleefully picks up a smartphone as numerous fans stream in and out of the frame. The Bollywood star clearly took time to perfect his technique, leaning gently but decisively to the left and then right, repeating this maneuver over and over again to make the most efficient use of limited time.

It’s unclear whether the stunt was a contractual obligation or a dream idea Kumar had when he wasn’t feeling well, but the fact that he went through with the effort to the bitter end suggests the latter.

So how many selfies did the actor manage to take in three minutes? According to a Guinness World Records official he was hired to verify the effort in Mumbai, 184.

That broke the record set by a guy named James Smith five years ago when he took 168 selfies in the same amount of time. Before that, celebrity Donnie Wahlberg claimed the record with 122 selfies. Wahlberg took the record from The Rock, who managed just 105 selfies.
