About a week ago, many news outlets, including us, reported that Microsoft might be working on a mobile taskbar for Windows 11. As it turns out, however, those reports are not accurate, or at least there is no visible evidence to believe that. A mobile taskbar might be coming to Windows 11 soon.
Microsoft Twitter watcher Albacore posted a GIF on Twitter about a week ago that showed a movable taskbar in Windows 11, which looked like a new feature Microsoft was testing internally in Insider build 25309. (/monitoring?) taken in build 22621 and not “an upcoming feature found in build 25309”.
The mobile taskbar in Windows 11 is one of the most requested features. It is one of the functions that Microsoft does not include in Windows 11, although Windows 10 does. Many people claimed that they did not upgrade to Windows 11 simply because the operating system did not have a movable taskbar.
The latest rumors of Microsoft internally testing a mobile taskbar for Windows 11 made a lot of people happy, but Albacore clarified that his discovery has nothing to do with whether Microsoft is working on the feature. Previously, Microsoft confirmed that the mobile taskbar would not be coming back in Windows 11 anytime soon. The key takeaway, however, is that Microsoft didn’t say it would never bring back the mobile taskbar.
Many media outlets falsely claim that this is an upcoming feature found in build 25309
It’s simply a highlight of a leftover (/overwatch?) taken on build 22621 (eagle-eyed viewers may note the lack of watermark)
If it was something new that just came out I would have said so https://t.co/X93xXF0m1G

Microsoft is expected to release Windows 12 next year, and we hope that the mobile taskbar will finally return to Windows. Another feature that users want in Windows 12 is to never combine taskbar buttons. With its next major release, it will be interesting to see if Microsoft brings those missing taskbar features back into Windows.
