- Microsoft’s approach to AI connects apps, allowing users to generate content in a program by pulling information from specific documents.
Microsoft just introduced AI capabilities for its Microsoft 365 suite of apps. Microsoft 365 Copilot brings artificial intelligence to a variety of programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams. They focus on the same concept, using AI to intelligently generate content.
A Microsoft 365 blog post (opens in a new tab) describes everything Copilot can do. Copilot is in trials with 20 customers, eight of which are Fortune 500 companies. More customers will be able to try Copilot in preview in the coming months.
Microsoft showcased a variety of features during today’s event, including prompting Microsoft 365 Copilot to get ready for a meeting, generating AI meeting notes for a Teams call that someone joined late, and creating a presentation from PowerPoint based on a specific document.
Copilot can use knowledge and information from one Microsoft application to generate content in another. For example, the details of a Word document can help create a PowerPoint presentation.
You can also use Copilot to prepare and catch up in Teams meetings. If you join a meeting late, Copilot can take meeting notes for anything you missed. It can also help create a meeting agenda based on chat history and suggest people to follow up on specific tasks.
Business Chat is a new experience from Microsoft that brings together information from your documents, files, emails, and other areas. The feature can be accessed through Teams and Microsoft365.com.
Within Outlook, Copilot can read an email sent to it and generate a reply.
Microsoft has made several AI announcements this year, including the launch of the new Bing powered by ChatGPT and features for Microsoft Teams.
This is a developing story and we will update it as more information becomes available.
