Now that Bing Chat is becoming more widely available, there’s a pretty solid chance that more people will be using it more often. The nature of interacting with it as a more conversational tool rather than a normal web search means that it’s generating some potentially useful and interesting threads that you might want to check back.
Currently, when you clean up, your old thread is deleted, but that doesn’t have to be the case. I came across this awesome browser extension called Bing Chat History and it does exactly what it says on the label.
Once added to your browser, you literally don’t have to do anything else. There’s no setup, it just works in the background, and as you interact with Bing Chat, the extension will catalog your threads.
Threads can be bookmarked if you want to save them for later, though at the moment that doesn’t seem to work all the time. However, you can filter between all threads and bookmarks, so things you want to save are easily accessible.
When you want to reread a thread, just click on it and all the content will be presented to you in a really clear and easy to read way. This includes the questions you asked to generate the answers, so if you’re researching a topic, you have everything you need to know for future reference.
However, threads are not saved only in the browser. There are options to export everything to plain text, Markdown, or JSON format, or you can export individual threads as required.
Similarly, if you like the Bing Chat History interface to review your threads, you can import any you’ve previously exported and they’ll be retrieved to show the extension.
And yes, it has dark and light themes. The only downside is that it only seems to work with the Bing Chat website, it doesn’t save anything from the sidebar in Microsoft Edge.
It’s a nice extension though, and if you plan to use Bing Chat a lot, it’s something worth having. You can get it from the Chrome Web Store for all Chromium-based browsers, including Edge, Chrome, and Brave. Hopefully full history support across all devices is something we can look forward to as Bing Chat grows and matures, but in the meantime it will work just fine.
