Anyone who has seen an episode of barefoot countess she is familiar with the light and airy kitchen of Ina Garten’s beautiful shingled barn in East Hampton, where the show is filmed. On the other side of the property, however, is a less-photographed (but equally impressive) farmhouse-style home where the acclaimed cookbook author and TV personality has lived with her husband, Jeffrey, since the ’90s. It’s rare for fans to get a peek inside the residence, but earlier this week, Garten blessed her Instagram followers with photos of her newly renovated kitchen, a project she took on during the pandemic.
It’s been over two decades since she did a kitchen renovation, and to say we love it would be an understatement. The entire aesthetic is as stylish and inviting as your kitchen, with warm neutrals, crisp whites, and inviting natural materials straight out of a Diane Keaton movie. Like Ina herself, it feels familiar and fabulous, but not over the top.
Flipping through the images, you’ll find his signature elevated, comfortable style imbued throughout. He began his “pantry of his dreams,” which he adorned with blue and white porcelain vases, patinated wood bowls, wicker dinnerware, and the signature white plates he’s collected over the years.
Taking center stage is her beloved Lacanche stove – Ina seems to have gone for the Sully range in anthracite with brass trim, gas hobs, an electric oven and a gas hob. Charming copper and stainless steel All-Clad pots hang above the stove, and a cream enamel Le Creuset Dutch oven sits above it.
Ina also shared a picture of her kitchen corner vignette, where titles like soda bar and the lost kitchen shares shelf space with her rainbow of self-titled cookbooks. He chose Calacatta Gold marble for the countertop, he said in a comment, thanks to its “movement and energy.” (Sealants have improved to make marble a great choice for the busy home cook, he added.) Six food photographs from the Staley Wise Gallery in New York City hang above the counter, completing the cozy nook.
Perhaps the most notable and treasured element of Ina’s impeccable redesign is the property’s grand view. Behind the towering branches and bright purple anemones that adorn the counter are French doors that open onto her lush gardens, where she has been known to pick fresh tomatoes, herbs, and flowers for her recipes and table decorations.
We couldn’t imagine a kitchen more suitable for Queen Ina, and we look forward to seeing more.
