Warning: A crisis has been detected. You can call it a dinosaur crisis, but Capcom won’t. exoprimal It may seem like the long-awaited revival of the Resident Evil spinoff series that replaced zombies with dinosaurs to put a new spin on survival horror, but it’s not. It’s a completely new IP.
Revealed in the March 2022 State of Play Showcase, exoprimal It was a very unexpected announcement from Capcom. We didn’t know what to expect going into the exhibit, let alone that Capcom would be there with a brand new game. Unlike his other popular ongoing series and recent production of new IP, exoprimal it seems to be taking itself a little less seriously, judging by the trailer and the premise, and it seems like a lot of fun. While it may not be the next Dino Crisis as some expected, here’s everything we know about the chaotic dinosaur-filled shooter. exoprimal.

exoprimal it now has a release date of July 14, 2023.
platforms

If you’re looking forward to some dinosaur-smashing action, chances are you already have the hardware to play it. exoprimal It will launch on almost all major platforms, including PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Switch is the only platform left out, but by 2023, even PS4 and Xbox One will be very old hardware, so expecting it on Switch would be too much to ask for the little handheld hybrid.
trailers
Most of the footage of exoprimal so far it comes in the form of a State of Play event reveal trailer. Even so, the game is far enough along that you have a good idea of what to expect from it.
We open in a city in the year 2043, with an android named Ivy addressing the viewer. She is standing near an Aibius logo and showing us the dinosaur forecast as if it were a weather forecast. We see a full week of “vortex forecast”, with different percentages for each day and night. As he continues his report, we see a soldier called an “exofighter” getting into an exosuit. This special unit is responsible for entering the affected areas to combat the threat of dinosaurs.
We see a few different types of suits and then the vortex itself, a pink orb appearing in the sky above the city. It opens up and, in rather comical fashion, begins showering dinosaurs from hundreds of feet into the sky. They all come out, floating in the air, crashing into the streets below. Somehow they survive this fall and start rampaging.
Here, we take a look at what appears to be our main cast of characters. There’s a big bald man with dog tags, another android woman, a bespectacled man at a computer, a sleeping pilot, and the redhead who convinced everyone this would be set in the Dino Crisis universe.
The trailer begins showing various conversations, and we learn that these vortices have been appearing for over two years when the game begins, that the redhead aspired to be the best Aibius exosuit pilot, and that this same company is responsible for not only forecasting these dinosaur portals, but also developing the exosuits to fight against them. They continue to be developed by an AI called Leviathan, which also provides the way humanity has been able to predict these vortices. More people are being recruited for exofighters, which is perhaps where we, as players, come in. The trailer ends with a mysterious figure entering Aibius as a new recruit.
Leviathan, however, in later trailers, appears to be the main antagonist, controlling the vortices to a degree.
Considering the online nature of this game, which we will detail below, we do not suspect that the plot is a major component in this game.
A trailer for the full story was then shown during Tokyo Game Show 2022. It starts with what we already know: space-time distortions are spewing dinosaurs all over Earth. What’s new is the setting of Bikitoa Island, which has apparently been sealed off except for the exohunters that patrol it.
In a cut, we see a black-robed figure who can teleport into the exofighter and attack the crew. There also seems to be the threat, or at least the suspicion, of double agents within the exofighters. The trailer ends with said unknown figure removing his helmet, but it cuts before his face is revealed.
The Open Beta trailer repeated much of the same plot details we already knew, but added the detail that exoprimal it also seems to be a time loop game. There are also parallel versions of the exofighters that we will interact with.
how to play

Now onto the good stuff. We got a lot of play in this reveal, albeit mostly quick cuts. what we do know is that exoprimal is a team-based third-person action title where you pilot a unique exosuit to fight against hundreds and hundreds of dinosaurs. Think something like Earth Defense Force or Dynasty Warriors, just with the outfits of something like Anthem maybe. Each suit has its own look and set of tools. We see one with a force field that looks like something out of Supervisionwhile others can pull about half a dozen rifles from their arms and shoulders, and some even seem more melee-focused with dual blades and kicks.
There are three roles shown so far: Assault, Tank, and Support.
Assault roles are described as, you guessed it, the main damage dealers. They can participate in short, medium and long distances according to the chosen equipment.
Tanks are all about protecting the squad and generating aggression. They have the highest health pools and are meant to be your frontline units.
Support units can heal, as well as use various buff and debuff abilities, such as increased movement speed.
Between these three roles, we’ve seen four exosuits: Deadeye, Zephyr, Roadblock, and Witchdoctor. The first two are assaults, and the last two are tank and support respectively. One interesting thing we only get a glimpse of is the ability or state to be forced to eject from your exosuit. We see a pilot coming out of one, and in another plane also entering a suit. Whether this means his suit can be destroyed but he gets a second chance to escape or if he has the option to swap suits during a match has yet to be determined.
What makes this cooperative game a bit more unique, aside from the premise, is that the core gameplay will also have a competitive edge. Not between you and the other members of your squad, but your squad competing against another team to complete the mission first. The main mode of exoprimalCalled Dino Survival, it is described as a test for squads to take out more dinosaurs than the opposing team while completing other objectives, such as holding out in specific zones or escorting cargo from one point to another. Each mission is dynamically created based on your skill and “other factors” to make each match unique.
Because these two teams are on the same map simultaneously, there is an opportunity for your two squads to clash but also cooperate if there is such a big threat that you can put your differences aside. Among the dinosaur threats, we see birds of prey, pterodactyl-like flyers, and the ferocious T-rex.
We can also easily see a long progression system implemented here to try and keep players running missions for XP, upgrades, loot, and probably cosmetics too.
Capcom gave us a detailed trailer for the game during its 2022 showcase. Here we’re introduced to Bikitoa Island, where “live combat tests” take place. These tests, which appear to be multiplayer modes, are Dinosaur Cull, VTOL Defense, Data Key Security, Omega Charge, and Energy Taker. However, the focus is on the trails of Carnage mode, which appears to be a survival mode where you take on an endless swarm of birds of prey for as long as possible. We get more looks at the new weapons and abilities that each exosuit has sprinkled throughout the entire trailer.
multiplayer

exoprimal it can only be played in multiplayer. This is an online-only game, so while we don’t know if AI companions and opponents are an option, you willpower You need to have an online connection to play this game. We suspect there will be some form of bot options as the official site lists the number of players from one to 10, but we can’t say for sure yet. In any case, having two teams of five exofighters is clearly the intended way to play. exoprimal.
Like almost all multiplayer games, exoprimal it will also have two battle passes called Survival Passes. The season 1 version was shown, and it has a free and paid version.
The big question that needs to be answered is whether or not the game will feature crossplay. We can reasonably assume that people on the same family of consoles, like PlayStation 4 and PS5, will be able to play together, but we don’t know if Xbox, PlayStation, and PC players will be able to trigger waves of dinosaurs. together. For a game that relies on being an online experience, it would be a huge blow to the player base if it split up, but until Capcom makes an announcement, we have to wait.
