One of the only decent city building and management games on consoles is Cities: Skylines, but don’t let the genre’s paucity fool you: Cities: Skylines is a critically acclaimed and beloved city-building game, and the Teams at Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive are about to deliver a sizable upgrade to current-gen console players.

On Wednesday, Cities: Skylines Remastered, a new edition of the mammoth sim, was announced, optimizing the title to look and perform better on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 consoles. Players can expect a number of improvements to the Cities: Skylines experience when playing on the latest and greatest consoles, including:

  • Increased graphics performance, although the exact updates were not detailed
  • Support for up to 25 tiles when building cities, instead of just 16 on Xbox One
  • A built-in map editor
  • Various UI and UX improvements, including a quick selection tool, precision locations, distance indicator, and more advanced snap options
  • A panel of environmental controls
