AMD Ryzen 7045HX “Zen4” Dragon Range 16-Core Laptops Sell Starting At $1799 –

The first AMD Ryzen mobile CPUs with chiplet technology are now available

With a two week delay, AMD confirms that the Ryzen 7045HX series is already shipping.

While AMD is still preparing its Ryzen 7040 “Phoenix” Zen4 and RDNA3 series for the mainstream market, the company announced that the flagship gaming processor series known as the Ryzen 7045HX or “Dragon Range” series is already in stores.

Dragon Range CPUs are a high-end processor series based on Raphael desktop silicon. In fact, it is a third generation of AMD Ryzen HX series, which features a higher TDP than the main series, but the first generation that offers more than 8 cores.

The Ryzen 9 7945HX flagship model has 16 cores (with two 8-core chipsets), which is as many as the R9 7950X desktop model. The series is optimized for notebooks with a lower TDP ranging from 55W to 75W depending on configuration. The complete series features four Ryzen models with 16, 12, 8, and 6 cores, but it seems that the number of cores is not yet available.

Unfortunately, the choice of Ryzen 7045HX systems is limited at the moment. In fact, only ASUS has released its 7045HX series of laptops so far, which includes the ROG Zephyrus Duo 16, ROG Strix G17, and ROG Strix Scar 17. However, AMD confirms the Dell Alienware 16, Lenovo Legion Pro 5 and 7, and the next MSI laptops will be released. In the next weeks.

AMD claims that its flagship Ryzen 7945HX SKU is on average 10% faster than the Intel Core i9-13950HX processor. Although this isn’t Intel’s flagship part, it’s still the full 24-core model with clock speeds just 100 MHz lower than the i9-13980HX CPU used by the most expensive laptops on the market.

This release doesn’t seem to have any official hotfix coverage, which is never a good sign. Only in this case, the first preview of the 7945HX system has been very positive, especially when considering power efficiency.
