Sketch the problems of 2023

Is anyone else having numerous issues with the 2023 release?
First of all I can’t log in, I have it on a (laptop) machine but the desktop says too many authorizations. I have deauthorized in account management, but the problem persists. I have now created another account to use the 30 day free trial until someone can help.
Second, the model is sent to the layout when I select re-edit in Sketch Up. Sketch Up fails. EVERY TIME
Third, in the middle of modeling, I get disconnected and can’t open the design even though the sketch is open.
I will finish my current project in 2023 and come back in 2022 for myself…

Apparently this is progress, right? I can’t help but feel like 2022 and 2023 have made a good show worse!

2023 seemed fine, but more and more bugs appear. I used it a week and it seemed fine so I removed 2022. Now I’m sorry I did it and it’s a pain to reinstall and configure 2022. Some issues. when assigning a label, the entity info dropdown is now a very small box in the middle of the toolbar. Files created in 22 have issues and recreating the geometry is a struggle. For example, a wall on a continuous exterior wall became “skewed” and no longer flat. I straightened it up and it allowed me to push and pull two of the three windows, but it wouldn’t let the third one no matter what. I tried everything. He blew up the group, took out that wall. he drew it separately. finally i did, so in the layout the section cut would not render correctly in hybrid. This is a file that I’ve posted several times over the past few weeks while doing reviews with the client and it’s now ■■■■. Auto text labels were hardcoded. GRRRR has been crazy.

Thanks for reporting the issues you’ve seen.

When you uninstall 2022, it does not remove your license or your settings and plugins. You can get 2022 working again by running this installer:

I’ll ask colleagues to read what you wrote, to see if we can fix those things.

If you’re investigating issues, is there any chance you can take a look at my ‘large cursors’ issue?

Updated to 2023 – I lost my extensions – SketchUp / Pro – SketchUp Community

Fixed the extensions issue, but this seems to have thrown the community off…

I have no immediate ideas. I’ll tag Trent in the other topic. He has better access to developers for those features than I do.

Update on 2023 bugs. Sketchup looks like it can get mad. It took two hard restarts of the computer, but the problems were fixed. Not just close and restart SU, I did it multiple times. For some reason a reboot is needed. I also got a backup of the layout file I was working on, the main file was just gone. It scared the hell out of me!!! Thought I’d share it to maybe help someone. Thanks Colin. It’s nice to know someone is listening.

Here is a little more information. The problems persist so I hope this helps identify problems to help fix them. Section cuts do not represent (A) correctly in the layout. Unrendered areas usually mean they are not solid, but the wall is good according to the Solids inspector. Counter (B) in the scene render as part of the cut, but it is three feet below the cut. a small text box appears in the toolbar when you select Drop Label under Entity Information. This error comes and goes.

I only use vector rendering in LayOut when I need to export to DWG. Otherwise, I use Raster, with the output quality set to High and PDF export without JPEG compression. Vector rendering has never been bug free and I’m afraid it never will be.

Haven’t had any issues so far specifically with section breaks, some weird random style issues, yes.

Can you share the file?

I’d like to comment on a feature in Sketchup 2022 that doesn’t seem to work in 2023. When I open the label selection dialog in the entity window within the outline, I can’t find my label name by typing. It’s been a pain to scroll through the little dropdown options box to find the tag I want to apply. This has always been my preferred approach for assigning labels to my components or groups. It’s a disappointing setback with this update. Hopefully it can be corrected.
Also, strangely, the functionality of my tab key is different. I use the tab key in conjunction with another key as a shortcut and find that during my workflow, the tab key seems to activate the main ribbon dropdown options more aggressively than before. That is, I have alt+c as a shortcut to select all connected edges and faces which I use all the time before pressing c, which is my shortcut for creating a component. What happens is, after I enter alt+c, the main ribbon is activated (with the underscore under the main ribbon dropdown options, like the underlined f for file) and when I intuitively go to press c, it doesn’t happen nothing. At which point I have to hit the tab again to disable the main ribbon dropdown selection. I then press c to create the component. Very different functionality than 2022 and more keystrokes, which I want to avoid…

I’ve also noticed some weird problems with “undo”. I’ve had multiple instances in Layout 23 where I want to “undo” a move or resize and the program just doesn’t respond to the cntrl Z or edit undo command from the Dropdown Menu. This has been very frustrating and I had to close and reopen a project multiple times and lost progress. Obviously, I’m saving a lot more often now, but this was never an issue on the 22 layout…

If you ask me to share the file? paul.mcalenan Yes, I can send you a link to a Google Drive folder where you can download. email me at [email protected]

I’m getting numerous random crashes in 2023 Studio, it can happen when changing scenes or updating styles, it’s getting very frustrating and non-productive. I ended up setting an auto save every 5 minutes. I’m still submitting the bug reports, but there are no solutions at this time.

Open to suggestions…

I also experienced a bunch of crashes when upgrading to 2023 Studio. That part seems to happen less and less after I looked for an update on my graphics card.

The biggest complaint at my workplace concerns the design. The dimensions do not stand still. Simply going one page forward and then going back to check something can mess up the alignment of the dimensions.

For me, the content of the viewports is moved to a completely different area of the sheet. The dimensions move with it, but the viewport box didn’t move.

This really hurts efficiency. NEVER update when you have a deadline to deliver drawings to your client.

I already told you in your other thread what is causing the problem and you told me that you would change your workflow. Your method of handling viewports is the problem. If you avoid modifying the Camera in LO, you won’t have the problem of labels and dimensions moving around.

Yes David. I know that. I was there.

I’m trying to change the workflow because it made it seem like my previous workflow, which was working fine in 2022, is the wrong way to do it.

Can you tell me why the standard view options are even in the layout if we’re never going to use them?

Update: Did I load the latest version 2023.0.37? whatever. The same problems still exist. Dropdown labels in entity info are sometimes a small unreadable window in the toolbar (see screenshot above). The rendering issues with hybrid verse rasters are the same as above, section cuts cause uncut geometry to be cut or not solid. I appreciate the work around suggestions, but I need line quality. I can do jobs but I shouldn’t have to. Reverting to raster overlay vector line work viewports works, but isn’t as good as a hybrid render. Plus it takes longer. Side note about time. Sketchup and design renders are often slow. I detail a layout model to raster and then reset each viewport to hybrid so proper output takes a long time. Working in hybrid takes a long time. Not sizing in vector results in inaccurate drawing dimensions, dimensions don’t snap the same way in raster. As I said, no comments are needed on the export settings. I know what I’m doing. We need to render in Sketchup and Layout to make it faster. I have a fast computer with good graphics, so it’s not that. This is not meant to be a complaint, just expressing my experience. I use Sketchup more than 60 hours a week. If render times improve, you might have some free time!
